Anton IJsseldijk and his wife Alieke have a dairy farm in Steenderen (the Netherlands). The dairy farmer strives for good health for his cows. It did not please him that calving remained a critical moment for a long time. That got better when he started feeding TheTransitionCompany's concept more than three years ago. The cows have been going into lactation fit ever since. Every single lactation.
How did you get in contact with TheTransitionCompany?
"Our vet put us in touch with your specialists. The dry matter ration we were feeding at the time was not providing sufficient results. I felt we had cows with milk sickness too often. I was looking for a simple ration that would allow us to help the cows get through the dry period healthily."
How do you like it so far?
"The concept is a practically manageable ration, with which you can adjust very well if necessary. The specialist from TheTransitionCompany provides excellent guidance. You can also easily check the effect of the ration yourself by determining the pH value in the cows' urine."
And are the cows now going into lactation fit?
"What I noticed from the start is feed intake. The cows in the dry-off group are now eating 14 to 15 kg of dry matter per day. With our previous ration it was much lower, about 11 to 12 kg. The great thing is that they continue this high feed intake after calving. As a result, they start up easier, give high-quality colostrum and the cows go into lactation fit."
"We now have almost three years of experience in applying the concept. We have hardly any problems with milk fever or ketosis and also no more problems with afterbirth. In short: it works!"
